The Deadlifts and Dresses 2011 Calendar – We’ve Done It!

29 Aug

What an INCREDIBLE RESPONSE!

The Deadlifts and Dresses Competition received about 100 entries from all over the world.  One hundred!  Every photo was wonderful.  Every single picture featured a sexy, savage, STRONG woman who felt good enough about herself to pose for the camera and send herself off to be judged.

Some of you sent us your stories, stories of women who had recently lost a lot of weight, who had never lifted weights before, who had fought with body image and self confidence issues for years.

While lots of women, and men, have this story to tell, and maybe to some it’s boring by now, few of us expect these people to now stand tall, proud and confident enough to take pictures of themselves and submit them to a competition!

It is very moving in and of itself to receive pictures of a woman covered in chalk pulling a deadlift, and a picture of her ebullient in a dress. But to then read that only two years ago she was 50 lbs overweight and had never been to a gym?  In those moments, the true purpose, or benefit of this project shone through.

We are allowing ourselves to celebrate ourselves. There is nothing more positive and empowering than THAT.

We had goosebumps and shed tears.  We were overjoyed!  And ultimately stressed.  There are only 12 months in a year.  How is it possible to choose only 12 from these phenomenal entries?

This is Eileen Schreiber writing.  In the end, I couldn’t.  We went from featuring 12 women to featuring 36 of you!  36! That means the calendar portion of “the calendar” is going to be very small.  And we know you are as happy about that as we are.  We want the pictures.

We can figure out what date it is by looking at our phones.

Calendars should be ready for December gifts.  We will keep you posted.

And now, get ready for the next Sexy Savage Strong Project, which will be
“The Barbells to Bikinis Paleo Cookbook”.

Yes, that’s right.  Pictures of you doing EVERYTHING you love to do in your box, and outside of your box, plus your favorite paleo recipes! Add nutritional info by Diane Sanfilipo, author of www.balancedbites.com, and we have a project that celebrates us and helps us succeed by giving us recipes we ALL can use, paleo or not.

We love us!  And stay tuned.

Are there any electonic copies of last year’s calendar photos floating around the web? There are a few athletes at the gym I crossfit at with interest in this and I’d like to get an idea of what type of photos you covet.

Aaron.. this is our first year. We are creating the photos that we approve so I would encourage all of you to simply go for it. Be creative. Visit our facebook page at Deadlfits and Dresses and see some photos people have posted there.

      It’s all good!

Should photos be vertical or horizontal? Or would one of each still work?

Maybe i have reading comprehension problems but the dead lift is in work out clothes then your just posing in a dress anywhere or at gym?

Do you take the deadlift picture in your dress or in work out clothes and then just take a picture in you dress at the gym…?
